Proxy Voting for NRIs |

a) whether the Government is planning to allow proxy voting for NRIs if so, the details thereof; (b) whether the process of proxy voting for registered NRIs is finalized and if so, the details thereof; and (c) the criteria for a voter to be considered as proxy on behalf of an overseas voter and the way in which the Government intends to ensure secrecy of the process and avoid any unfair financial dealing? ANSWERANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR LAW AND JUSTICE AND CORPORATE AFFAIRS (SHRI P.P.CHAUDHARY) (a) to (c) : A Bill to amend the Representation of the People Act, 1951 enabling the overseas electors to cast their votes either in person or by proxy has been passed by the Lok Sabha and is pending consideration by Rajya Sabha at present. The process for proxy voting including the criteria in this regard will be finalized in consultation with the Election Commission after the Bill is passed by Parliament. |
