Supreme_Court_of_IndiaA public interest litigation (PIL) petition has been filed before the Supreme Court of India seeking a ban on the websites which spread jokes portraying those belonging to Sikh/Sardar community as ‘persons of low intellect, stupid and foolish’.

A bench comprising of Justices TS Thakur and V. Gopala Gowda will hear the matter on October 30.

The PIL – writ petition has been filed by one Harvinder Chowdhury on August 22, 2015 and inter alia the petition prays:

issue a writ of mandamus to the respondents to ban websites spreading jokes on sardars/Sikhs projecting them as persons of low intellect, stupid and foolish, etc.
