Charges: Sections 294, 509, 34, 120 of Indian Penal Code, 1860; Sections 110,131 of Bombay Police Act; Sections 66A, 67 of Information Technology Act, 2000.

Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani appeared for the Petitioners who submitted:

“In the course of a humour show, the language may have been vulgar or abusive, but the law as held by the SC makes a distinction between vulgarity and obscenity. The intention was only to amuse, not titillate. The FIR is only a form of harassment: … “one has to take a broader view. What is there to investigate?” ~ TOI

Government lawyer after an hour-long hearing said he needs two weeks time to reply to the petition and thereupon Court adjourned the matter passing interim orders to take “no coercive steps” till then.The high court is likely to take up the matter for further hearing on March 16.
